The Kate Festival: The Mysterious Cham Cultural Heritage

The Kate Festival is celebrated by members of the Binh Thuan Cham community during the first week of October at the ancient Po Sah Inu Tower in Phu Hai ward here in Phan Thiet. It is the most important event in the Cham calendar and is a chance for the Cham people to honour their ancestors and seek blessings for peace and prosperity.

There are a variety of activities in which visitors are invited to watch, or even to participate. There are solemn ceremonies, like the welcoming of the goddess Po Sah Inu’s attire and the opening of the tower door, thrilling competitions such as the Saranai horn blowing contest and water-carrying races, and mesmerizing performances of Cham music and dance troupes from across Binh Thuan province.

The buffet will also include many seafood favourites, fresh from Mũi Né Bay.

During the festival weekend, the resort will be providing pottery and weaving workshops, where guests can gain insight into the rich traditions of Cham craftsmanship while learning how the Cham people have been creating unique pottery and weaving brocade for hundreds of years.
Special tours are also available to our guests that will introduce the fascinating history of the Cham people and will visit the ancient Cham towers in Binh Thuan and Ninh Thuan provinces. Throughout October and November, special rates are offered to those who wish to explore the remarkable collection of artifacts at the Mui Ne Antiquities Museum, curated by antiquities collector Nguyen Ngoc An.
