“BA VANG TEMPLE” IN MUI NE

Situated atop a hill just a couple of kilometres from the Pandanus Resort at the tip of Mui Ne Cape is Ba Vang Temple, one of the oldest Buddhist temples built to reflect the beliefs of fishermen.

Ba Vang was Princess Ra-Xa-Ma-Ha, born in 950 A.D. While on a humanitarian mission, her boat was caught in a storm and sank in the waters of Mui Ne Bay, leading to her tragic demise. People from the local community buried her, established a temple in her honour, and revered her as a deity who blesses their lives.

The exact date that the original temple was built is unknown, but it was restored in 1812 and again in 1860. It is evident that Ba Vang Temple has been a part of the spiritual life of many Mui Ne people for generations. Fishermen often come here to pray for peace and good fortune before each fishing trip.

From the Pandanus Resort, visitors can either borrow one of our complimentary bicycles and cycle to Ba Vang Temple or they can walk to the temple.
